White Noise 2 is an asymmetric multiplayer horror game by Milkstone Studios, the sequel to White Noise Online. It was released on Steam in April 2017 and is also sold on Xbox and PS4.

Each match puts four investigators against one creature. As an investigator you explore the area with your team and look for eight tapes, watching your flashlight battery so you do not end up walking blind and trying not to lose your sanity. Getting separated makes you easy prey. Death is not the end: you return as a ghost who can explore more freely and help the survivors.

As the creature you stalk the team without being seen. Light stuns you, so you use your powers to avoid it, scatter the investigators and pick them off, and you can summon totems that warn you when someone is near. Stop them collecting the eight tapes and you win. As you play you unlock more investigators, creatures and flashlights, each with different strengths, and a replay screen afterwards shows how the team wandered in circles.

The fear is that of being hunted in the dark by something you can only hold off with a beam of light. Recent Steam reviews note that few people still play online, but there is a solo mode with bots, and it is cheap enough to buy with a group of friends.

How to play White Noise 2

1. Buy it on Steam (Windows, Mac, Linux), Xbox or PS4.
2. Start a match with friends through the matchmaking, or play solo against bots.
3. Choose a side, or let the game pick for you.
4. As an investigator, stay with your team, keep your flashlight charged and find all eight tapes.
5. As the creature, avoid the light, place totems near the tapes and catch the investigators before they finish.

Tips

• Investigators who wander off alone are the easiest prey; keep the group close.
• Save your flashlight battery for when you need it to stun the creature.
• If you die, keep playing as a ghost and scout ahead for tapes.
• Bring your own group: players report the public matchmaking is quiet now.
