What frightens Take the test, verify your humanity: an automated voice and grainy, flickering black-and-white screens put questions to you, such as which colour you would bleed if your finger was cut, and photos of faces asking whether they are human, with long silences of static between them, a jump scare players still complain about, and more after you think it is over.

Content: jumpscares, flashing lights.

Antipathy is a free, few-minute analog horror game by LinsonLime, played in the browser. A droning voice and grainy black-and-white screens put you through a test to verify that you are human, with questions that grow stranger, faces to judge and long stretches of static where anything might happen.

About Antipathy

Antipathy is a short horror game by LinsonLime, made in GameMaker for the Themed Horror Game Jam #16 and Finally Finish Something 2024, and free to play in the browser on itch.io. Its page says only: take the test, verify your humanity. The look uses Gizmo199's Horri-fi shader for its grain and colour fringing.

You press Run exam and the test begins. An automated voice reads out instructions over flickering, grainy black-and-white screens: an empty hallway, a blacked-out picture, questions with two buttons. If your finger was cut, which colour would you bleed, red or blue? A photograph of a smiling face: are they human, yes or no? Between questions there are long silences of static, and players say the waits make them dread what comes next.

There is at least one jump scare that players remember, and the game does not end where it first seems to; players advise staying after what looks like the end screen. Some found it bizarre and some funny in places, but most call it creepy, and a few say it is real horror. A few players could not get past the static on their machines; the maker suggests watching a playthrough in that case.

It takes a few minutes. It suits players who like survey and test horror such as Fear Assessment or Assessment Examination.

How to play Antipathy

  1. Open Antipathy on itch.io and press Run exam; it plays in the browser, and F toggles full screen.
  2. Listen to the instructions and wait through the static.
  3. Answer each question by clicking one of the two buttons.
  4. Keep going after what looks like the end; the game is not over.

Tips

  • Use headphones; the voice and the silences carry it, though the voice can be hard to make out.
  • Be patient with the static between questions; it is meant to be long.
  • If it never gets past the static on your computer, try another browser.
