What frightens A boy who climbs into an old pizzeria's ball pit wakes years in the past, where a yellow rabbit animatronic stalks the halls and drags people away; in the present it follows him home, and every night it is hunting him and his family.

Content: jumpscares, blood, fantasy violence.

A 2D pixel-art adventure in the Five Nights at Freddy's universe, adapted from a story in the Fazbear Frights books. Bored young Oswald dives into the ball pit at a run-down pizzeria and finds himself in the past, where a rabbit animatronic is hunting. Over five nights you solve puzzles, gather clues and hide to save Oswald, his father and the children from the past.

About Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit

Into the Pit was made and published by Mega Cat Studios and came out on PC in August 2024, then on PlayStation, Xbox and Switch that autumn. It adapts the title story of the first Fazbear Frights book, part of the Five Nights at Freddy's series.

Oswald lives in a small, dull town and spends his summer days at Jeff's Pizza, a shabby place built where an old Freddy Fazbear's once stood. When he climbs into the ball pit, he comes out in the past, in the bright, busy pizzeria of years ago. But a yellow rabbit is there too, and what happens in the past starts to follow Oswald back to the present.

You play in 2D, walking from room to room, picking up items, solving puzzles and reading clues to work out what happened. Each night the rabbit hunts you. It patrols, listens and looks; when it sees you, you run for a hiding place and hold still, and the screen holds its breath with you. The rules are simple, run when you are seen and hide when you are hunted, and the game breaks your calm with sudden appearances.

It is one of the most story-driven FNAF games, with several endings, and a good way into the series for players who prefer adventure games to sitting in an office watching cameras. The pixel art keeps the gore light, but the jumpscares and chases are real.

How to play Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit

  1. Walk Oswald between rooms and examine objects to find items and clues.
  2. Use the ball pit to travel between the present and the past.
  3. Solve each night's puzzles to move the story on before time runs out.
  4. When the yellow rabbit appears, break line of sight and hide until it moves away.
  5. Make choices about who to save; they lead to different endings.
