One Night In 2D is a fan game by JujuProdGames, made in Godot as a tribute to Scott Cawthon's Five Nights at Freddy's. The maker's pitch: as a night guard you need to defend against Fred and his evil animatronic crew, but instead of surviving in a 3D world, you need to master the constraints of 2D to make it through the night. The bear is called Fred, the maker explains, after a store rejected an early build over copyright.

The rules are the ones fans know. You must last until 6 AM. Animatronics move through the building, and you watch them on a camera monitor, shut the office doors, check the hall lights and listen at the vents. Doors and lights draw power, and if it runs out the lights go dark. The twist is that your guard is a little pixel character who has to walk, jump and roll between the controls, so being in the right place at the right time is part of the challenge.

Besides a night against the first game's crew, there is a mode built around the second game's office, with toy and withered animatronics, a mask and a music box. The game keeps your best and last times and ranks your runs with stars.

It is free to play in the browser, with a Windows download on the itch.io page. It suits FNAF fans who want a new take on the formula, and players who like short, replayable survival nights.

How to play One Night In 2D

1. Start a night from the main menu.
2. Move your guard left and right with A and D between the doors, lights and monitor.
3. Click to close doors and turn on hall lights, and press M to check the cameras.
4. Watch your power; doors and lights drain it.
5. Survive until 6 AM to win the night.

Tips

• Check the lights before closing a door so you do not waste power.
• Learn where each animatronic comes from; each has its own path.
• Use the roll to cross the office faster when two threats come at once.
• Listen for footsteps and vent sounds; they warn you before the cameras do.
