About Liquidators

Liquidators was made by Gray Unit, a small volunteer team working on it as a student project, and released free on Steam in September 2020. It is dedicated to the liquidators, first responders and support units who answered the Chernobyl disaster; instead of charging for it, the makers ask players to donate to UNICEF's fund for Ukrainian children.

Based on true events, it puts you in Chernobyl in 1986 with three nuclear plant workers on a mission to prevent a radioactive fallout that would affect half of Europe. You go down into the bowels of the blast site in first person: red-lit cellars, long tunnels of pipes, flooded rooms and the glowing debris of the reactor itself.

The horror is the radiation. You cannot see it, only hear it in the Geiger counter's clicks and read it on its dial, so every step has to be placed by the reading. Each liquidator has their own skills, giving different ways through each hazard, and every moment is permanent: whether they all make it out, or succeed at all, is up to you. The store warns of flashing lights.

It suits players who want horror without monsters, rooted in a real disaster, and anyone interested in what the liquidators faced.

How to play Liquidators

1. Download Liquidators free on Steam.
2. Choose which liquidator to send, using each one's skills for the hazard ahead.
3. Move slowly and watch the Geiger counter; let its readings guide every step.
4. Get the job done and get out before the dose becomes fatal; deaths are permanent.
