What frightens The makers' own words: 'Explore the inner workings of madness' in a horror game set in a modern Swedish house, where you have to survive the night with a music box in hand.

Notes of Obsession is a free first-person horror game set in a modern Swedish house at night. With a music box in hand, you explore the house and the inner workings of madness, and try to survive the night.

About Notes of Obsession

Notes of Obsession was made by Creaky Stairs Studios, a team of 17 game development students at the University of Skovde in Sweden, in ten weeks, with all of its assets, sound and music made by the team. It was released free on Game Jolt in 2016 and is also on itch.io for Windows.

You walk a dark, modern family home in first person. The rooms are realistic and quiet: a living room hung with family photographs, a child's bedroom with a large stuffed elephant, bookshelves. In your hand is an old music box, and the screenshots show glowing symbols in the dark beside it. The makers sum the game up in one question: with music box in hand, will you be able to survive the night?

The makers describe it as an exploration of the inner workings of madness. Players on Game Jolt write about its chilling atmosphere, cryptic story and a monster that comes for them, but the makers say little about what happens, and this page does not either.

It suits players who like student-made horror in a believable house, and who want a free game with polished visuals.
