What frightens Locked in a surveillance room, you steer a camera along a rail through your haunted apartment for eight in-game hours, hunting for paranormal anomalies and photographing them to exorcise them. The entities hide in every corner, can trap you or destroy the camera, and each anomaly you miss removes one of the six locks on the seal that keeps them away from you.

Paragnosia is an anomaly-spotting horror game set in your own haunted apartment. From a locked surveillance room you move a camera along a rail through the rooms, photograph every paranormal anomaly to exorcise it, and try to keep the seal that protects you intact until 8 am.

About Paragnosia

Paragnosia is a horror game by the small studio Sine Coda, released on Steam for Windows and Linux in October 2024. Entities have haunted you for a long time, and tonight they mean to strike. You sit locked in a surveillance room with one tool: a camera that runs on a rail through your apartment.

You move the camera along the track and turn it a full 360 degrees to look into the living room, the bathroom, the kitchen, the dining room and beyond. When something is wrong, you take a picture of it, and that exorcises the anomaly. The camera has a battery limit, so you cannot watch everything at once. The night runs in eight rounds, one for each hour, and every round brings a new set of anomalies.

At the end of a round the system tells you how many anomalies you missed. Each one costs one of the six locks on the seal that guards you. Keep at least one lock until 8 am and you have a chance to banish the source of the haunting; lose them all and the night is over. Some anomalies are small changes to a familiar room, while others flood the floor or call for an urgent fix, and the store warns that they may try to trap you or break the camera.

It is a cousin of the I'm on Observation Duty games and of loop games like The Exit 8, but you drive the camera yourself instead of switching between fixed feeds, which makes the apartment feel close and physical. The store puts a run at 45 to 180 minutes. It suits players who like slow, attentive dread more than chases.

How to play Paragnosia

  1. Start the night in the surveillance room and learn how each room of the apartment looks in the first round.
  2. Move the camera along the rail and rotate it to check every corner.
  3. When you spot something that has changed or should not be there, take a picture of it to exorcise it.
  4. Watch the battery so the camera does not die when you need it.
  5. Get through all eight rounds until 8 am with at least one lock left on the seal.

Tips

  • Spend the quiet early minutes memorising each room; later rounds are easier when you know what belongs where.
  • Sweep the apartment in the same order every round so no room goes unchecked.
  • Deal with any urgent warning on screen first, before hunting for small changes.
  • A missed anomaly costs one lock, not the run: keep calm and keep checking.
