What frightens You and up to three friends wake in purgatory, a dark, grotesque maze of tiled subway halls, and the only way out is to gather the pieces of the puzzle at its centre and deliver the core. Unidentifiable creatures roam it, from a thing of many grasping hands behind a door to a figure in a bloodied coat, and they seem intent on keeping you there forever.

Content: creepy creatures.

Spectral Scream is a co-op horror game by STOIC Ent. for one to four players, released in 2024 with VR support. Trapped in a purgatory of dark subway halls, you scavenge, study the creatures and collect the pieces of the central puzzle to escape.

About Spectral Scream

Spectral Scream is made by STOIC Ent. and was released on Steam in August 2024, playable on a monitor or with a VR headset, alone or with up to three friends.

You are trapped in purgatory, a place the store says stimulates your extreme emotions and tests the limits of your psyche. It looks like an endless subway station: tiled halls, flickering tubes, lockers and barriers. The only way out is to solve the mysterious puzzle at the centre, acquire the core and deliver it, but the pieces are scattered through the maze.

The maze is full of creatures you cannot identify, from a mass of grasping arms in a doorway to a figure in a bloodied coat. You find tools, buy new ones with gold, sell what you do not need, and keep a record of each creature's behaviour, since knowing how they move is the key to getting past them. Your teammates are your best defence: share items, rescue each other and trade information, though the store warns they might betray you.

It suits groups who like Lethal Company-style runs with a heavier horror tone, and VR players who want a co-op scare.

How to play Spectral Scream

  1. Buy Spectral Scream on Steam; play alone or invite up to three friends, on a monitor or in VR.
  2. Explore purgatory's maze and collect items and gold.
  3. Buy better tools and sell what you do not need.
  4. Study each creature's behaviour to learn how to avoid it.
  5. Gather the pieces of the central puzzle, take the core and deliver it to escape.

Tips

  • Write down how each creature behaves; the store calls creature research the guide to survival.
  • Stick together and share items; rescuing a downed teammate is often worth the risk.
