What frightens Shipwrecked on Fort Oasis, an abandoned mining island, you follow a friendly-sounding voice on your walkie-talkie into its ruins, where red, skinless creatures crowd the dark, and the island's past bleeds into a reality that keeps coming apart.

Content: gore, violence, disturbing imagery, jumpscares.

Total Chaos is a first-person survival horror game from the maker of Turbo Overkill. Wrecked on Fort Oasis, a deserted mining island, you scavenge scraps, craft makeshift weapons and push into its decaying ruins across nine chapters, guided by a voice on your walkie-talkie as the island's horrors and your own past close in.

About Total Chaos

Total Chaos began in 2018 as a celebrated total-conversion mod for Doom 2 and was rebuilt as a full game by Trigger Happy Interactive, the studio behind Turbo Overkill, published by Apogee Entertainment. It came out in November 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with music by Akira Yamaoka, composer of Silent Hill.

A sudden storm wrecks you on the shore of Fort Oasis, a once-thriving mining town on an island, now deserted, decayed and too dark for comfort. Cryptic radio transmissions from someone who sounds like a friend draw you inland. As you go deeper, reality itself becomes twisted and uncertain.

You scavenge for scraps and craft makeshift weapons, from wrenches and sledgehammers to firearms, and manage a weight-limited inventory. The creatures are bloodied, skinless things that crowd you in the dark, and fights are close and brutal. Notes, visuals and encounters across nine chapters slowly piece together what happened to the island and to you.

Critics praised its atmosphere, sound and level design and found the melee clunky and the navigation confusing at times. It suits players who want a long, bleak first-person survival horror with crafting, in the vein of Silent Hill.

How to play Total Chaos

  1. Explore Fort Oasis in first person and follow the voice on your walkie-talkie.
  2. Scavenge scraps and parts, and craft weapons and tools at workbenches.
  3. Manage your inventory; it is limited by weight.
  4. Fight the creatures with what you have, or avoid them, and upgrade your weapons at workbenches.
  5. Read notes and look closely at the island to piece together its story.

Tips

  • Craft and upgrade before you need it; a weak weapon in a fight is deadly.
  • Watch your inventory weight and drop what you do not need.
  • Explore side areas for supplies and lore.
  • Take your time navigating; the island is easy to get lost in.
