What frightens You live alone as a scientist at an isolated research base in the Swiss mountains, collecting signals from space with its radio dishes, processing them and selling them. Most are stars and dwarf planets, but some are unusual, strange or unexplainable, and over more than 45 in-game days unique events come to the base, often in the dark of night when you are the only one there.

Voices of the Void is a first-person sci-fi horror simulation by mrdrnose, free on itch.io as an alpha. You work alone at a research lab in the Swiss mountains, gathering and processing signals from space, while unusual and unexplainable things find their way to the base.

About Voices of the Void

Voices of the Void is made by the developer mrdrnose and is downloaded from itch.io, where you name your own price, including nothing. It is an alpha that is still being updated, with a large community of players; its itch.io page holds thousands of ratings. The maker says a Steam release will come once it is more finished.

You are a scientist posted alone to a research base in the mountains of Switzerland. Your job is to find signals from space with the base's radio dishes, analyse and process them, and sell them for points. Most are ordinary objects such as stars and dwarf planets. Some are unusual, some strange, some unexplainable.

Between signals you walk the base and the forest paths out to its dishes and wind turbines. The story mode runs for more than 45 days with unique events, over 200 signals and many secrets. Much of the time it is quiet and even peaceful, which is what makes the long nights and the things that turn up in them unnerving.

It suits players who like slow, routine-based horror where you are alone with a job, such as Iron Lung or I'm on Observation Duty, and who do not mind an unfinished, sprawling game.

How to play Voices of the Void

  1. Download the game from itch.io (you can name your own price, including zero) and extract it with 7-Zip.
  2. Play the tutorial first; the maker notes it unlocks story mode properly.
  3. Use the base's computers and dishes to find signals, then analyse and process them.
  4. Sell processed signals for points.
  5. Work through the story mode's days and watch for the events that break the routine.

Tips

  • Open the Help window in the main or pause menu whenever a system confuses you.
  • If the game runs slowly, turn off Volumetric Light and lower shadows, as the maker suggests.
  • Explore the area around the base; the maker promises plenty of secrets and easter eggs.
  • Keep an eye on the event days in story mode; not everything that happens is part of the routine.
