Five Nights at Candy's 3 is the 2017 entry in Emil "Ace" Macko's Five Nights at Candy's series, one of the most followed fan games on Game Jolt. It is a free download for Windows.

This time the setting is 1962 and a child's bedroom. Young Mary Schmidt is in therapy to recover memories of something terrible, and at night the performers of the Rat and Cat Theater return to her as monsters. You see the room from her bed, lit only by a small flashlight, with a door on the left and a closet in front and to the right.

The Monster Rat can come from any of those three. Shine the light in his eyes and he backs off; let him in and he stares you down while you try to keep the beam on him, then slips under the bed, where you have to work out which side he will come up and wait for the creak of the boards. On later nights the Monster Cat rises slowly at the foot of the bed. A tape player with a cassette of sleep music her father made can be played to make the night pass faster.

It asks for the same nerve as Five Nights at Freddy's 4, listening and looking into dark corners, but with its own creatures, its own sound and a sadder story told between the nights. It suits players who have finished the official games and want more of that formula.

How to play Five Nights at Candy's 3

1. Download the free Windows build from the game's Game Jolt page and unzip it.
2. Look around the bedroom and shine the flashlight at the door and the two closets.
3. When the Monster Rat appears, keep the light on his eyes until he retreats.
4. If he gets under the bed, check which side he is on, face the other way and listen for the creak before you shine the light.
5. Play the tape player to make the night pass faster, and survive until 6 AM.

Tips

• Do not stare under the bed for long while something is down there.
• Use the sound: a creak of wood means something is about to rise.
• The Monster Cat only comes from the end of the bed; check it once he is active.
