What frightens Rose Hawkins wakes wounded in a dark, decaying building while searching for a missing girl named Eden; mannequin-like figures and other twisted things wait in the dark, a candlelit ritual scene hints at what happened here, and you have only a flashlight and what you can find.

Content: gore, violence, disturbing imagery, jumpscares.

Forgotten Memories is a third-person psychological survival horror game made for mobile. As Rose Hawkins, searching for a missing child named Eden, you wake wounded in a strange, dark place and must explore, solve puzzles and survive what stalks it, in a game built as a tribute to the survival horror of the 1990s.

About Forgotten Memories

Forgotten Memories, first released as Forgotten Memories: Alternate Realities, is made by Psychose Interactive, a small Canadian studio. Announced in 2009, it took years to finish and came out on iOS in April 2015. A Definitive Edition followed on iOS in 2018 and on Android in 2019, and a Remastered edition with new graphics, extended areas and voiced narration came out in 2024 for current phones and Nintendo Switch.

Rose Hawkins is looking for Eden, a missing child. She wakes up wounded in a place she does not recognise and finds herself caught in a never-ending tragedy, frozen in time. To find the girl and the truth she must face her deepest fears. The cast includes Guy Cihi and David Schaufele, voice actors from Silent Hill 2, and the game wears that influence openly.

Play is classic survival horror: third-person exploration with a flashlight, puzzles, scarce weapons, combat and saves you must make yourself, with no in-app purchases to make it easier. The dark rooms, the mannequin-like creatures and a sound design built for headphones carry the fear.

Critics praised the atmosphere and its Silent Hill feel and criticised the touch controls and combat; a gamepad helps. It suits mobile players who miss the survival horror of the PS2 era.

How to play Forgotten Memories

  1. Explore with your flashlight in third person, using touch controls or a gamepad.
  2. Search rooms for items, keys and weapons, and read what you find.
  3. Solve the puzzles that open new areas.
  4. Fight or avoid the creatures, depending on what you are carrying.
  5. Save your progress yourself; there is no autosave in the original edition.

Tips

  • Play with headphones and in a dark room.
  • Use a gamepad if you can; reviewers found the touch controls hard.
  • Save often.
  • Look closely at every room; the puzzles reward attention.
