This is a Ghost was developed and published by Nuci and fully released on Steam in April 2024 after Early Access. It takes the ghost-hunting formula of games like Phasmophobia and adds a second half: once you know what you are facing, you have to banish it yourself.

Each contract sends you, alone or with up to three others, to one of twelve haunted locations. You gather eight kinds of evidence with tools such as an EMF radar that reaches fifty metres, night vision, a paranormal filter, a motion sensor and a doll called Bobby that reacts to nearby entities. From that you name the entity among 23 types and read whether it is vengeful, residual or lost. The contract also asks for its identity, year and cause of death, its favourite room and a bloodstain, and you can photograph activity for money.

The entities do not wait for you. The store says a demon can possess a player for a few seconds by luring them or turning their weapons on them, a banshee screams and freezes its victim before attacking, and a siren sings and drains the life of players nearby. Screenshots show a bloodied figure standing over a glowing pentagram, a girl with long black hair in purple light and a doll lit red through a camera. To finish the job you craft ammunition for a pistol or shotgun, with additives that slow or weaken the entity.

Players liken it to Demonologist and enjoy its depth, and some note that progression is a grind with few public players around. It suits ghost hunters who want more than identification and would like to fight back at the end.

How to play This is a Ghost

1. Pick a contract and a map, then choose your equipment before going in.
2. Search the location with the EMF radar, night vision, the paranormal filter and other tools to find activity.
3. Collect evidence and narrow down which of the 23 entities is present and how it behaves.
4. Answer the contract's questions: who it was, when and how it died, and its favourite room.
5. Craft the right ammunition, adding what slows or weakens it, and banish the entity.
6. Spend your earnings and reputation on new entities, maps and better equipment.

Tips

• Learn each entity's attack: knowing a banshee freezes you before it strikes or a siren drains you from nearby tells you where not to stand.
• Carry a shield or incense for protection while you gather evidence.
• Take photos from close up and of rare events; a photo is worth more the rarer it is and the nearer it was taken.
