One Night at Flumpty's 2 is the 2016 sequel to Jonochrome's One Night at Flumpty's, a fan game that began, its maker says, as an inside joke about Five Nights at Freddy's and grew into a series. It is free for Windows on Game Jolt, and Clickteam publishes paid versions for iPhone and Android.

Flumpty Bumpty, a round-faced egg with a fixed grin, has once again invited (kidnapped) you to play a game with his friends. All you have to do is avoid them until 6 AM. The new place has its own rules: if the light is off you are safe, and if it is on, they will come and find you.

You sit in a cluttered, hand-drawn room with a light switch in the middle, a vent to one side and an exposure meter that fills as you are seen. A laptop running on an old battery shows camera feeds of the rooms around you: an owl perched in a washroom, a mushroom garden under a grinning moon, other creatures you will learn to dread. Each character follows its own rules, and learning them is the game.

The drawings are cartoonish and the tone is sly, but its jumpscares land and its rules are demanding. A Hard Boiled mode waits for players who finish. It suits fans of the official games who want a stranger, hand-drawn take on the night.

How to play One Night at Flumpty's 2

1. Download the free Windows version from Game Jolt, or buy it on the App Store or Google Play.
2. Open the laptop to check the cameras, watching its battery.
3. Keep the light off when you need to stay hidden, and only turn it on when you must.
4. Close the vent when something comes through it.
5. Learn each character's rules and survive until 6 AM; then try Hard Boiled mode.

Tips

• The battery is your clock as much as the clock is: do not leave the laptop open.
• Watch the exposure meter in the corner; let it fall before you act again.
• Each character needs a different answer, so watch what each one does before you react.
