What frightens In 1963 a secret agency projects a grieving woman's consciousness into the astral plane and watches her on cathode monitors; she wanders shifting, sometimes terrifying dreamscapes built from memory and grief, and pieces together from tapes and memos what was done to her.

Content: death, grief, flickering and glitching screen effects.

Project Looking Glass is a first-person psychological horror game set in 1963. As Subject 7, a grieving woman sent into the astral plane by a secret government program, you explore shifting dreamscapes seen through a Cold War monitor and piece together what happened to you from audio logs, memos and recordings.

About Project Looking Glass

Project Looking Glass is a narrative psychological horror game by MORPH, a Los Angeles musician and filmmaker who made it alone and released it himself on Steam in August 2026, for Windows and macOS. A free demo is still available.

The year is 1963. A secret government agency runs a classified program called Project Looking Glass, a technology that projects a subject's consciousness into the astral plane and shows it on cathode monitors. You are Subject 7, a woman in mourning, recruited because she can reach further than any subject before her. The experiment has opened a door it cannot close.

You explore in first person, and nothing is shown plainly: every place comes to you through the glow of a Cold War monitor, with scanlines, colour bleed and VHS glitching. The projections range from a quiet bedroom and a red EXIT sign in the dark to a vaulted lab and a train under a purple sky, places of memory and grief and places that should not exist. The story is non-linear. You find audio logs, memos and feed recordings left behind in the astral plane and work out what happened to you as you live through it.

Its maker names P.T., The Stanley Parable, LSD Dream Emulator, Dreamcore, Subliminal, Petscop and My House.wad as inspirations. It is a slow, lo-fi, dreamlike horror rather than a game of chases. The voices are all performed by MORPH and changed into different characters with AI voice conversion, as the store page states. It suits players who like analog and dreamcore horror, conspiracy stories and walking through the strange at their own pace.

How to play Project Looking Glass

  1. Buy the game on Steam, or try the free demo first, and play on Windows or macOS.
  2. Walk through each projection in first person; a controller is recommended.
  3. Pick up and listen to the audio logs, memos and feed recordings you find.
  4. Follow the threads in any order: the story is non-linear.
  5. Keep exploring to learn what happened to Subject 7 and reach an ending.

Tips

  • Play in a dark room with headphones: much of the mood is in the sound and the glow of the monitor.
  • Listen to every recording in full; the logs carry most of the story.
  • If the screen effects are hard on your eyes, look in the settings; the store lists colour and camera comfort options.
