What frightens Working through the night for a darknet employer, you watch hacked cameras in homes and buildings for things that change, then leave your apartment for timed deliveries in the block, where anything could slip in through the door you left unlocked.

Dead Signal is a first-person horror game by Reflect Studios about a night shift for the wrong employer. From your apartment you monitor a network of hacked and hidden cameras, report what changes to meet an hourly quota, and carry shady packages to tenants of your building, while anyone, or anything, could walk in through the door you left unlocked.

About Dead Signal

Dead Signal is made and published by Reflect Studios and came out on Steam for Windows in October 2023.

You work for ViVEX, an organisation on the darknet run by a man called The Shade, who sells access to camSPY, a network of hacked and hidden cameras in businesses, parks, transport and private homes. Your job is to watch it through the night and report anything of interest. Time is money: there is an hourly quota, and missing it means termination.

The store lists 23 cameras to watch. You spot the differences that appear in each feed and choose the right report category, while connection errors and remote camera repairs pull your attention away. The Shade has also noticed that you live in a sketchy apartment complex, so through the shift you must collect packages and deliver them to tenants, which means leaving your apartment, riding the elevator to the roof to fix the satellite, and coming back to lock up with a keypad code.

The store puts it plainly: wherever you are in the building, any moment could be your last, so you watch the cameras and your own surroundings at once. It suits players who liked I'm on Observation Duty but want to be able to get up from the desk, and who do not mind a timer at their back.

How to play Dead Signal

  1. Buy and install Dead Signal from Steam, then start your shift.
  2. Watch the camera feeds and look for anything that has changed.
  3. Choose the right report category for each change to meet the hourly quota.
  4. Fix connection errors and camera faults when they come up, including trips to the roof.
  5. Deliver the packages you are given to tenants, then return and lock your door with the keypad code.
  6. Keep going until you clock out at sunrise.

Tips

  • Learn what each camera looks like early in the night so changes stand out.
  • Lock up every time you come back: an unlocked apartment is an invitation.
