Five Nights at Freddy's: In Real Time is a fan game by Taaryn and the animators of Real Time Studio, released on Game Jolt at the end of 2024 for Windows, Mac and Linux. It is free.

The premise is the first game's: you work the night shift at the soon-to-close Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, watching Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy on the security cameras. The difference is in the feeds. Instead of still images that change between looks, the animatronics move on screen in real time, walking out of the show stage, leaning into the camera, turning away. If you miss a move, they hide in the gaps between cameras and wait.

The tools are the familiar ones: a camera map, a door on either side of the office, and a power meter. Between nights you walk the pizzeria in an 8-bit overworld to buy your next night, collect papers left by a character called Brother, the Plate-a-matronic, and unlock cutscenes and challenges. A new sequel storyline continues ten years later, with hidden characters along the way.

The game streams video for its feeds and warns that it does not run equally well on every system. It suits anyone who knows the first FNAF by heart and wants to feel it again with the animatronics truly moving.

How to play Five Nights at Freddy's: In Real Time

1. Download the free version for your system from the game's Game Jolt page.
2. Before each night, walk the 8-bit pizzeria to choose your next night.
3. Flip through the camera feeds and watch each animatronic move.
4. When one reaches a door, close it with the button on that side.
5. Stay on the cameras so nothing slips out of sight, and make the power last until 6 AM.

Tips

• Do not leave the cameras for long: missed moves let the animatronics hide between feeds.
• Close doors only while something is there, to save power.
• The game uses a lot of memory for its video; close other programs if it stutters.
